June 3rd

Wrote all the posts in my dorm, but Im too lazy to come and upload hhaa.. What have I been doing for the past week? hmmm... I finally went out of this place haha.. saw civilisation haa.. Bought a Car, went to Walmart, eaten Mac, and hmmm.. trekking around this area? hmm.. Went to Kapler, Grand Prismatic Spring, lone star geyser, Upper falls of the Yellowstone river, Grand Canyon of the yellowstone, blah blah.. Some of the photos are absolutely magnificent~!

And ya, the other day when we went for breakfast, we have a bison and her calf right at our doorstep, literally. Bison are dangerous animals here, especially when they have their young with them, so we quickly run across haha.. And while going to Lone Star geyser, we have to walk across another, cos its just 5m away from the path. And it stared at me when I was walking past it~! If he charged over, thats it man..

Heres some more photos,

Mystic falls, 2hours walk away,

"See you in another world", the smoke/steam at Biscuit basin, reducing visibility to a few metres,

Another waterfall, Kapler Cascade. I like this waterfall~! Not sure if its allowed, but I climbed to the bottom of the cascade to take this picture, from the viewing platform about 10metres high,

This picture is taken at Grand Prismatic Spring, when the sun is near setting, and the pictures there is really really nice.

And heres the group of us that went there, in 4 separate cars, consisting of Singaporeans, Americans, Malaysians, and Finnish~!

And this is Atezimer Geyser, Im sure I spelled it wrongly hhaa.. but its one of the nicest geysers, though it erupt unpredictably. Heard from an englishman that before it erupts, the ground will shake. Hopefully I can see it before I leave here =)

Thats all for now, not sure when I be online next time, till then~!

May 27th

Its sunday 27th, nowadays lazy to go to the other dorm for internet access, so if you get to see me online, its very rare. Life here is really good, relaxing, stressless, slow-paced. Perhaps that explains why I dont see the need to go online. I have totally no idea which day or which date is it here, time just pass by without any worries of tomorrow.

I have no regrets coming here at all. I remembered during the interview with the employer last year, she was saying how beautiful this place is, and I doubted her at that time. I was thinking, how nice could a place which have only a limited number of species, and where most of the trees look alike. But coming here, this place is absolutely nice. Its breathtaking.

Anyway, for the past week, it snowed like on 5 days, so its quite shiok. From young, I always see cartoons and shows with snow, people escastic about seeing the first snow on christmas etc, but I never got to experience it myself. The girl during the interview told me it snowed for 3days last year, so I was half expecting half hoping it would snow here. From the first day I arrived, I was waiting, and wishing that it would snow here. And it did. The feeling of seeing snow, its undescribeable. I dunno how others feel about it, but I would be damn happy to see snow everyday haa..

May 21st

It snowed today~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woah....... hahaha.... First time I see snow in my life, was so escastic about it. We were having our lunch break in the dining room, when someone said its snowing, then we all ran out haha.. I think the angmos think we sua ku ha.. but really shiok.. then during my work, we run out to take photos when its breaktime hhaa.. heres some of the photos,

Thats me outside my workplace

Me with John and SeeWei

Eileen, Kris and me braving the snow

Yesterday is my off day, so we went to Mallard Lake, which is about 5km away. We took around 2hours plus to walk there, and on the way, we saw some fallen snow. Heres a snowman I made haha.. cute?

And heres a picture of our destination,

And heres another picture of the sunset here, like I said, you can easily take a nice photos of the sunset here,

This is a picture of a bird nest at the emergency exit staircase of my workplace,

We went trekking yesterday. Yea, its all about trekking here hhaa.. Thats yellowstone for you, and Im loving it =) Here are some of the photos I took yesterday,

Heres a picture of the place, Black Sand Basin, a half hour walk from Old Faithful

The whole group, 9 of us. We just love to go hiking haa.. thats the kind of people you get here

This is the sunset lake at Black Sand Basin

Then on our way back, we saw some Elks, and we got separated from the rest cos they walked in front, as the Elks blocked our way.. so we can only wait for them to cross

The Elk again, close up. I know we can all see these animals at zoos, but seeing them at wild is just a different feeling altogether

Black Sand Geyser/Spring I think, I went down to take the photo, thats why I aint in it, Im actually quite close to the geyser

The sunset. Over here, its very easy to take a nice photo of the sun really. The sky always looked so nice

After the trekking, we went to the employee pub for supper, and the pizza, its really nice~! Maybe we are too hungry haha.. But its large and cheap too~! We bought 3 medium pizzas for only US$25.

And its finally SUNDAY~!!!! My first off day~! I waited for like so long so long la.. At first work without off is still ok, but gradually get more n more tired. Let me see.. I worked like 11 days without any off day liao. Anyway, we are almost done with exploring the trails in our area, so trying to find a chance to buy a car soon, so that we can get out of this area haha..

Time seems fast and slow here, that I already lose track of the day and date. The pace of life here is quite slow, very relaxing. I guess I really enjoy it here, theres so little things you have to worry about. Just work and have fun after work =) As for work, I just try to challenge myself to clean the rooms as fast as I can haha, a way to entertain myself, if not work also very boring, cos you work alone and not in pairs.

Anyway, gotta buy a pizza back later hhaa.. talking about it makes me hungry already, cos the dinner is like so early la.. normally eat at about 4plus to 5plus, then end up at night always hungry one.

Tmr is my off day, trekking day again haha.. Mallard Lake, here I come~!

Thursday, May 17, 2007

Woke up early in the morning to use net, cos its faster, and then I can watch my jap drama~! haha.. Anyway, weather was cold when I walked over just now, it reads 4degrees just now, the type of weather whereby when you speak, u can see fog. V shiok haha..

N about my job, Im doing housekeeping. A typical day starts at 8am, going to the office to get the work list, which have about 12-18rooms, and different rooms have different condition. There is the favourite "vacant" status, and there are occupied, and the most feared "Due-out", which means the guests is moving out by 11am that day, and you have to change the bedsheets too.

And the day ends at 4pm, by then we have 5hours before nightfall, the one wonderful thing about having a longer daytime, cos we have time to do our things. For the past week that I been here, everyday after work, we went trekking, going to recreation hall to play basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, badminton, table tennis, captains ball..catching shows together in someone's room, not wasting a single free time.

Im been working for 8days straight now.. off is coming on sunday and monday, finally =)

Now that I have some time, let me rewind haha.. we went trekking around the geysers three days ago, and saw many many geysers and hot springs. Some are small, some are big, some are are really magnificent. And theres the famous Old Faithful that erupt every 90mins, so people will gather around the geysers and wait for it to erupt, water bursting out to around 3-4 storeys.

My workplace here also very interesting, like we have a Shakedown dinner the day before Old Faithful Inn opens. This shakedown dinner means we go to the restaurant to eat, and we can order anything without paying. Its actually a rehearsal for the restaurant staff, so that they will be prepared for the opening. Interesting right?

This is what I ordered, Elk Meat

And they actually gave us some money to act haha..

Heres a picture of Old Faithful

Another picture of Old Faithful with me

And a picture from the mountain near Old Faithful

And now, many many photos of geysers and hotsprings

Our Destination, the famous Morning Glory

Been here for around 6days now, and I seriously love it here~! Every moment of it. We already went hiking twice in the past 3 days, this place its absolutely lovely. Seriously. The scenery, the weather.. and the people here are quite nice too. They will greet you along the hallway, along the road. Hi.. Whatcha doing?..
There are people coming from different countries here, Singaporeans, Malaysians, Chinese, Ukraine, France, Colombia, Thailand, and different parts of US.

Im blogging too slow haa.. Its already sunday, so fast, and my blog post still at wednesday. Shall fast forward now, the bunch of us here went hiking today. Reason: theres a bear warning post this morning, telling us to keep away. Then on the contrary, everyone went hiking to find bear hhaa.. Anyway, I shall only post two photos now, lack of time. We didnt hike completely to Maddison Lake cos its too dark, so here we are, along the way, where we found snow! haa.. Snow that came last saturday and we missed it. Faster snow~!!!

Saturday, May 12, 2007

Im lagging in my posts, still at tues only, cos theres limited time and Im lazy hhaa.. Its already saturday, been through 3 days here. So far its only training and group work, so not so tired, but think they gonna make us work individually today. The Old Faithful Inn where Im working at, just opened its doors yesterday, so from today onwards will be tired days haha.. Supposed to clean 14-16 rooms a day by ownself.

The weather here in the morning is quite cold. Right now its ten degrees here. Yesterday morning was 4degrees. But very shiok, I like this weather so much haha..

Anyway, I shall talk about the past 3 days first.

May 9

Wednesday was spent in training, all theory stuffs. Like knowing Xanterra vision etc, and the detailed explanation of Housekeeping duties, But most of us already quite knocked out from yesterday long long journey.

During the break while training at Snow Lodge, very nice fireplace

The building at the back is my workplace

With only one jacket, you know its not that cold there in the day

I thought its a squirrel, but they call it chipmunks here.

After the training, we went to see the famous Old Faithful, where water burst out every 70-80mins, so they actually have the timing of eruption at the visitor centre.

The General store here

My workplace

Thats all for now, shall talk about the trekking yesterday another day. Time for breakfast~!

7-8 May

Had a 4 hours flight to Taipei on monday morning, after which we were in the transit area for like 3 hours which we spent it walking around shopping. And you will really appreciate the variety of shops in Changi because every turn you make in Taoyuan, you see the same shops -_-..

On the flight to Taipei

Shopping in Taipei transit

After that, we had a gruelling 11 hours flight to San Francisco, and that is really cui.. Cos theres no personal tv in front of us~! And I really dont think the leg space is alot, perhaps just a bit larger than Tiger airways really. With me finding it hard to sleep on the plane, I had perhaps only slept for only one hour.

But then, it really feels terrific when we touched down at San Francisco. Theres a kind of unbelievable feeling, like "Wow..Im in the United States!!!" Its really nice.. and these feelings dispel any discontentment with the long flight hours.

Touchdown came and we met the other two gals that is going there with us, and we decided to make the full use of the 10 hours transit time (yea, gasi holidays sucks), and took the Bart to town area, Powell station, which is 30mins + US$5.15 away. As we werent able to find any luggage deposit area in the airport (which we later found -_-), we dragged our luggage out, and perhaps thats why I think we attracted a lot of attention. Coming right out of the station, we were approached by a guy wanting to be our guide. Theres a number of beggars around too. But all in all, San Fran looks like a really nice city, and we dont feel foreign at all because theres a lot of chinese around there too. At the end, we decided to have our meals at BK, being familar with it.

At the San Fran Bart, Powell Station

Whats irritating was we have to wait like another 6hours for our flight when we get back to the airport. Where got people book 6am flight one~! I jus want to complain. And as usual, I cant sleep without a bed around, and time passed really slowly. Its not any better when they dont have wireless in the airport. They ended up watching dunno what hk shows on their laptop while I went to explore the airport.

Outside the airport at 3am in the morning

Along the way to Salt Lake City

What follows next is our ride to Salt Lake City, and when we reached Salt Lake City Intl Airport, guess what we found? Krispy Kreme Donuts~!!! And I tell you.. it taste heavenly good~!!!!!! The donut is super soft, and its like it melts in your mouth~! Those donuts that people queue up for 3hrs.. they dunno what is called good haa..

Krispy Kreme Donuts

And from Salt Lake city, we took those a small plane by Skywest to Montana, which can hold maybe around 40ppl. First time take such a small plane hhaa.. Then there are only one pilot, and one cabin crew on board the plane. COol haha..

Skywest Airline

Montana have a really small airport, but the weather here is like San Fran too, very cooling, very shiok. After that we were doing paperworks, applying for our social security, and then going to Gardiner to do our employment processing, collecting work clothes, and finally being allocated to Old Faithful Inn, near the famous Old Faithful Geyser.

Along the way from Gardiner to Old Faithful, we had to stop twice to allow bisons to cross the road. The scenery along the road was also beautiful, snow caps covering mountains, steam coming out from the ground. We finally arrived at our dorm at 9pm plus, checked in, and slp~! Tired tired..
