Been in Shanghai for a week now, and took the chance to go Hangzhou today. I was pondering over whether to join a one-day tour package, but in the end decided to find my own way there, preferring to explore myself than to follow a guide.
Finding the way there is not difficult, getting ticket at Hongqiao railway station and taking the high speed train. But blur me didnt understand what the ticket officer was saying then, only to realise I got myself a standing ticket with no seats. So I pratically stood through the 1hr, not that it's difficult considering I took even longer journey to work back home.
The train itself was impressive though, pretty much looks the same like the Japanese bullet train. Would have expected that though, this is a country where imitation are common and AA products are all around. The train station itself are huge, and well organised I must say.
As for Hangzhou, I practically walked all my way, round the West Lake. No it's not a small lake at all, in total I walked for 5hrs+, clocking about 14km. There are numerous various scenic spots, 10 famous ones which was specially mentioned by historical people, or mentioned in some poems etc. But it was slightly hazy today so the scenic view is not as scenic as it should be, which is a pity. The other thing letting the place down, is the huge number of people around, which is something to be expected in this country after all. Can't imagine the number of people that's gonna be there next weekend which is a long weekend here. And also the long buggy rides which takes people around the lake, on pesdestrian pavements, playing irritating sounds when people are in the way.
I also went over to Yue Fei Temple, which have his statue and the famous writings "还我河山". Something that I (and maybe you) read about back in primary school, or secondary school. It's amazing because I would never have envision myself standing there looking at the real thing.
I also realised I'm not suited to travel alone. Remembered the phrase in the movie "In the Wild", Happiness is only real when shared.
I miss home already.

Was at fish & eliza wedding yesterday, and met up with alot of friends. One commented that everyone still looks the same, which was kind of true. But beneath the surface we are all different from 4yrs ago, each going through different phrases of life, having different experiences. We were once playing a major part of each other life, in k grp.
I hope we can meet up more often.
